The Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtle is the smallest and most endangered sea turtle in the world, with fewer than 9,000 believed to be in the wild today.  Living in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, these majestic turtles are rarely seen, except when laying their eggs on beaches in massive groups. This nesting behaviour is called 'arribada' where as many as 100 eggs are laid in a single nest.

This piece is on display at Artifex Gallery, Sutton Coldfield

Titled 'Ancient Traveller' this sculpture looks to embrace the sea turtles timeless journey. Being one of the oldest creatures on the planet and witnessing countless changes to the worlds oceans, the Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtle travels vast distances across our oceans, often return to the same beaches they were born.

The composition of this piece is such that the turtle is effortlessly gliding through the ocean, with a serene glint in his eye. The shell is made from oak, capturing a sense of longevity, wisdom and resilience. Being a natural material, oak pairs with the shell of a sea turtle in many ways, both have lived a whole lifetime, which you can feel on the sculpture.

I am thrilled to be able to celebrate this truly majestic creature in a sculptural form. This piece will add a timeless quality to any room or collection.
