Paper Patina

Paper Patina is my signature sculptural technique, in which individual paper feathers are hand-cut, painted and layered from fine-art paper to create highly detailed three-dimensional wildlife sculptures.

The paper used is Fabriano Tiziano, selected for its suitability for fine-art applications. The paper is acid-free, contains cotton, is highly lightfast and is classified as Long Life under ISO 9706.

Although paper forms the visible surface, the sculptures are constructed around a rigid underlying structure, with the paper elements individually secured in place. They are therefore intended as permanent sculptural works rather than fragile paper objects.

Display and care

For long-term preservation, Paper Patina sculptures should:

  • be displayed indoors and away from prolonged direct sunlight

  • be kept away from excessive humidity and significant temperature fluctuations

  • not be handled by the individual feathers

  • be protected from knocks, impact and areas of heavy traffic

Under appropriate indoor display conditions, the materials are selected and the sculptures constructed for long-term display.

Cold-Cast Bronze & Resin

Cold-cast sculptures are created by combining casting resin with bronze powder, producing a solid, detailed sculptural form with a genuine metal surface. The bronze-rich surface is carefully finished and polished by hand to reveal the character of the metal, before being protected with a suitable finish. This is the same for stone powders such as slate.

Cold-cast bronze allows for the fine detail and expressive surfaces of traditional bronze while offering a more accessible alternative to foundry-cast bronze. Each sculpture is individually finished, giving the surface its own subtle variations in tone and patina.

Care & display

Avoid placing the sculpture where it may be knocked or regularly handled, and do not use abrasive cleaning products on the surface.

For routine dusting, use a soft, dry cloth or appropriate soft brush. If the sculpture requires more substantial cleaning or you are unsure how to care for it, please contact me before applying any cleaning products.
