The peacock is a rich cultural symbol, often meaning beauty, pride, rebirth, intelligence, power and transformation. They originate from India, where in Hinduism they are sacred to the goddess Lakshmi, which symbolises wealth, beauty, and prosperity.
Being one of the most colourful birds on the planet, the male peacock comes alive during mating season in spring, where his train (tail) grows to lengths of up to 2 meters long. It is used as part of his courtship display, fanning the feathers out wide, revealing the eye feathers, and shaking them to attract females.
This sculpture is displayed at Sculpture by the Lakes in Dorset, UK.
This sculpture combines all of the symbolism of a peacock, showcasing their arrogant, but beautiful nature, with his head slightly raised looking down at you from a height of 1.75 meters. The composition of the base looks at the peacocks association with intelligence, having the peacock climb the books as if it were a staircase to royalty. Made from 260gsm pastel paper feathers, each one has been individually hand cut, painted and glued onto the main structure, a truly unique piece of art.
This is a statement piece suitable for any large reception room, hall or collection space. The sculpture will need to be placed on a plinth at least 1 meter high due to the tail length.
