‘Chancekin’ captures the spirited charm of the Red Squirrel, a native woodland dweller now rarely seen, but long cherished. With bright eyes, perked ears, and a lifted tail, the piece holds a moment of curiosity and stillness before motion. Sculpted with subtle energy and a sense of watchfulness, it reflects the squirrel’s quick mind and delicate, darting presence.

Red squirrels live high in the canopies of British conifer and broadleaf woodlands, nesting in dreys, foraging for nuts and seeds, and navigating branches with instinctive grace. Once widespread, they are now largely confined to protected areas, glimpsed only by chance, a flicker of russet in the trees.

The title ‘Chancekin’ speaks to the squirrel’s quick, alert nature, a creature of sudden appearances and instinctive decisions. The name carries a sense of smallness and warmth, as if this bright-eyed forager is not just part of the woodland but watching over it in its own quiet way.
This piece celebrates not only the squirrel’s physical beauty, but the quiet magic of meeting one in the wild, sudden, light, and unforgettable.
