Named Kambu, the Swahili name for the lilac-breasted roller, this sculpture was born from my 2025 research trip to Kenya. After encountering rollers throughout the Masai Mara, I witnessed two birds in courtship flight over the beaches of Mombasa, flashes of lilac and azure moving through the morning sky. Kambu is my attempt to hold onto the feeling of encountering it in the wild, a moment of colour, freedom and connection brought home from Kenya.

Please note this sculpture is available in different base colours.

I have written a blog about how I created Kambu, from seeing rollers in Kenya to creating it back in the studio in the UK.
